This night before Thanksgiving poem is for you. Yes, you.

dear you,

this poem is for you: for every person who needs an extra serving of love this thanksgiving holiday. i’m sending you love.

& this poem is for you: for every family with ghosts in your closet. consider this poem your own personal proton pack.

& this poem is for you: you know who you are. drink some water.
take a nap. take two. retreat when you need to.

& this poem is for you: every mom, dad, aunt, uncle, sibling, cousin & grandparent who braved the supermarket for the last can of cranberry

sauce knowing good and well the shelves would be empty & aisles
full; in case anyone forgot to say thanks for trying, this poem’s for you.

& this poem is for you: past, present & future

& this poem is for you: mom’s who drive in day-before-thanksgiving big city traffic for sick children; children in labor; children who can’t make

it home this thanksgiving; mom’s who mom from down the hall, different
time zones & for the very first time this year, this poem’s for you.

& this poem is for you: the homeless, the heartless, the filled with heartache. it’s just words on a page but it’s for you anyways.

i hope you find peace. i hope you all find something to be thankful for.

& me.
